Honor 9 is Honor’s flagship 2017. The Honor 9 has arrived in early summer 2017, just after a great success of Honor 8 Pro. The new flagship lands with a completely premium design and features to fight without complex against the best Android smartphones in the market. The brand Huawei aims to seduce the younger audience, experienced in technology and demanding to have the best smartphone in the market at the lowest possible price.
If you remember Huawei P10 which is presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, If you remember Huawei P10 which is presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, at that point you will discover something fundamentally the same as in the two gadgets, particularly at the equipment level.
Honor 9 presents a somewhat improved design but following the line marked by previous models. The back is still made of glass but this time slightly curved on the edges, same like a Samsung Galaxy S7. This surface proves to be flattering when it comes out of the box, but it is quickly idealistic as the fingerprints accumulate there. This glass has the merit of not being too slippery in hand.
A small innovation for Honor, the fingerprint sensor is on the front panel, below the screen. The positioning of the fingerprint sensor is a major change for the brand Honor, as it usually sensor includes on the back, but it easier to use when it below the screen. Overall, its use shows no weakness and the unlocking is almost instantaneous. On either side of the fingerprint reader, Honor chose to place the navigation keys.
The colors chosen for Honor 9 are again a success: the new smartphone is available in a silver version called Glacier Gray which is inspired by “the beauty of glaciers”, the classic glossy black that is quite elegant and the essential version In sapphire blue, a very bright color that seems exclusive to Honor and is a true delight.
Honor has chosen to introduce a 5.15-inch display. It is the same display size that we see in the Huawei P10. The screen is LTPS (derived from the IPS) and has a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The screen is bright and quality but not excellent like the Galaxy S8, it is very good. This size and a slight curvature at the lateral edges give it a very pleasant feeling in the hand and for all.
An ergonomic level, the manufacturer has made the smart decision to put the fingerprint sensor on the front which is a considerable advantage over the Honor 8 Honor 8 Pro or 8 Premium Honor.
The Honor 9 repeats the structure of Huawei P10 with the dual camera system in which we have an RGB 12 – megapixel sensor that captures color information by a monochrome sensor 20 megapixels records all the details in black and white. The only difference, at least with the naked eye, is that on this smartphone we do not have the Leica label.
The specifications are, therefore, a high-end terminal in the photographic section. In addition to the double rear camera, we have a wide aperture (f / 2.2) that will serve us both for macro photography and to illuminate the night scenes. We also have a hybrid zoom of two increases without loss of quality, the system of autofocus by phase detection, LED flash of double tone and the possibility to take photos in HDR.
The 8-megapixel front camera also takes a step towards Honor 8 with a wider opening that is capable in addition to recreating the effect to share images in social networks.
Software and performance:
The operating system with which comes standard Honor 9 is Android 7.0 Nougat, along with the customization layer of Huawei EMUI 5.1. The latest version of Android has some news of weight. For example, a smart system to save battery when we have the mobile screen off. Or the possibility of finally using two applications on the same screen natively. This feature was already available on some models like certain Samsung Galaxy, but with apps of each company.
Speaking of own apps, Honor 9 has a handful of its own specific proposals and functions. One of the functions we have discovered since the Huawei Mate 8 is the use of knuckles. For example, if we hit the screen a couple of times with a knuckle we take a screenshot. If two knuckles are used, the screen recording will start. If you press the knuckle on the screen and make a horizontal line, the split screen opens. Finally, if we draw a shape with the knuckle a cut is made.
Honor 9 becomes the third smartphone of the select mobile club that includes the Kirin 960 processor. This chip is present in both the Huawei Mate 9 and the Huawei P10. It is one of the most powerful processors on the market. It’s eight cores are divided into four cores at a maximum speed of 2.4 GHz and the other four at 1.8 GHz. Next, to a RAM of 4 GB, a powerful set is completed to run Android processes, apps and games.
The performance of the phone is outstanding in all types of scenarios being extremely fluid in day to day even for very demanding users multitasking is no problem and we do not have any kind of slowdowns when using the phone even in periods of great performance.
